Louis L'Amour, An Altar in the World (via whentheheartwaits) |
love called and said she’s gone for good this time. took the words with her and isn’t looking back.
i’m sorry. i know how love held your hand. i know how she lifted the bruises off your skin. i know how much space she took up in your emptiness. i know how in every photograph, time lets love stay. but love’s a house now and she has too many rooms for your ghosts to grow in, and it just wouldn’t be fair to either of you. you have no choice but to go home.
on your plane ride back, think of the time love pulled you out of the water. think of all that air that love gave back to you. think of the time love dragged you out of bed. or the time love danced in the rain with you. you were both so beautiful like that, you’d hold on to it forever if you could.
but of course you can’t. in every photograph, love is the only face that fades.
I swear I’ll be fine for weeks, but one morning I’ll wake up and my heart feels heavy for no reason at all. It’s just hard, you know? thinking you’re making all this progress only for it to be ruined by one little thing
